When you think of the changes that drive software, often they are big flashy changes. Day One isn't pushing anything all that flashy, instead it's been given a lot of functional changes.

Rick and Morty is a fun show because it subverts so many different sci-fi templates. That same subversion works in video games with the new Pocket Mortys. This is essentially Pokemon. But instead of a vast array of fantastic creatures, you build an army of Mortys from across the multiverse.
Downwell is what happens when Jetpack Joyride and Metroid get tossed together in a blender. The game is black and white with the enemies and gems in red. This is an interesting aesthetic, though the art style is even more simplistic than pixel art. I like it, but I can see how some people may be averse to this art style.
