Multitasking Month

Type type type Since this is the first National Blog Post Month where I have a personal blog I am maintaining, I am going to try my hand at writing a post for this blog every day this month. Dan does this every year, and he's one of the most faithful writers I know when it comes to keeping a schedule. So if it worked for him, maybe it can make sure the habit sticks for me.

This is also the month where I try my hand at writing a novel. I have tried this twice now, and ended up petering out. I blame some of this on trying to use ideas that were only half baked, and trying to write something I'd want to try and publish. This time around I am looking to try and make a go at making a novel in the vein of an improv. I'll keep my posts going here every day and update my progress on both.

In general, I want to be a bit more dedicated to writing, making sure that I am showing a lot more output than a smattering of game reviews every month. I used to think that I could be proud of a lot of that work, but I have always ended up one of the last writers on sinking sites. I am not sure if it is that I have always had a day job, and lack the hustle required to be a serious freelancer. It also could be that I have always been a middling writer. I can't say I have done much to indulge my voice, I feel like my newer reviews lack any of the enthusiasm that I had when writing at Dignews. I think that much of that came from the excitement of being a semi-professional writer. I had the same enthusiasm at Macgasm, but really tried to crank up the output I was doing. Trying to review a game and an app a day meant that I was skimming the apps and doing brief summaries. There wasn't a lot of room for me to insert any voice, and being pressed for time meant that I was putting out less than my best work.

I think that I am still exploring what this site is, and how best to refine what I'm writing. I am still very interested in writing reviews, talking about news, and cool tips and how tos. I am just not sure that`s the best content to post here. I think that reviews will probably end up here, and the occasional tutorial. Day–to-day news links and snark will probably live on Twitter. Unless I have a lot of ideas to explore, than I will expand it to post here.
